I am a registered, board-certified, and New York State licensed art therapist and psychotherapist, and a life-long artist and creative being. I obtained my Masters in Creative Arts Therapy from Nazareth College of Rochester (2004), and my undergraduate degrees in Studio Art & Psychology from SUNY College at Brockport (2002). I am a Reiki Master-Teacher with 12 years of experience.
Additionally, I am the program director for a mindfulness and meditation program for youth in schools.
I practice therapy from a humanistic/person-centered perspective. I believe in the innate ability to heal emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I believe every person possesses tools for healing within themselves. My role is that of a conduit in helping my clients discover their strengths and personal power. The creative process, coupled with a positive therapeutic relationship, facilitates this discovery.
My areas of specialization include working with at-risk adolescents & women suffering with anxiety, depression and coping with difficult life transitions. I discovered during the span of my career, many of the reasons people seek therapy are often due to some level of trauma or loss. Regardless of how mild or severe these experiences are, I view this as a normal part of the human condition. I consider myself to be adept and experienced at supporting clients in healing from trauma and loss through a unique combination of the creative process, embodiment, mindfulness & meditation, and the development of a preferred personal practice.
I strongly believe in the healing power of art. I experienced this power throughout my own journey. I feel honored to be able to witness others finding their creative voice for personal healing.
I look forward to answering any questions regarding my services, creative arts therapy, and/or how Arbor can be part of your journey.
